What is a nail nipper used for?

A nail nipper is a grooming tool used for shortening and shaping even thick nails on hands and feet. Its straight cutting edge makes it particularly suitable for corner nails, as well as ingrown or brittle nails.

With a double cross spring, even hard toenails can be cut with little effort. The cutting surfaces are sharp to ensure a clean cut.

A distinction is made between lap joint pliers – where both halves lie flat on top of each other at the joint – and box joint pliers, where one half passes through the other at the joint. Due to their design, nail nippers are suitable for both right- and left-handed users.

Which design is right?

Depending on the desired leverage, there are models with a screwed double spring (little effort required) or a single spring (medium effort required). A brushed, smooth surface ensures a secure grip. Professional models include head nippers and compound-action nippers.

Use and Care

Nail nippers should not come into contact with cleaning agents or lotions – aggressive ingredients can damage the stainless steel. Store the nippers dry in a case and, if necessary, add a few drops of oil to the joint.
